Sascha Meinrath to share Open Techology Initiative's perspective on the role of new media in Egypt and across the Middle East

As Egypt celebrates Mubarek's resignation should discussion again turn to nominating Twitter or Facebook for the Nobel Peace Prize? Did social media push a president out?

Sascha Meinrath explains on Wired's Epicenter blog:

"In the same way that pamphlets didn’t cause the American Revolution, social media didn’t cause the Egyptian revolution,” said Sascha Meinrath, director of the New America Foundation’s Open Technology Initiative. “Social media have become the pamphlets of the 21st century, a way that people who are frustrated with the status quo can organize themselves and coordinate protest, and in the case of Egypt, revolution."

This Thursday, Sascha Meinrath will elaborate on these ideas during a discussion at the Heritage Foundation where he will discuss the role of social media in not only Egypt but as a tool for communication throughout the Middle East. Details below:
